Cultural Tours

France offers a wealth of culture!
When you think about the word 'cultural', you generally think of elements which make a place or region special and unique - you think of history and heritage, of art, of language and of local cuisine. Below are just a few suggestions of places which encompass the true culture of France...
The city of Tours, for example, is a city by the Loire. Tours boasts classical art, first class gastronomy, rustic local food, history dating back to its 1st Century Gallo-Roman settlements and its 14th Century position of regal power. Tours offers 30 street markets and even has an annual garlic and basil fair.
Carcassonne, the ancient walled city with drawbridges, towers and cobbled streets was reputedly the inspiration for Disney's The Sleeping Beauty! Aix En Provence is famous for its architecture, especially the Four Dolphins Fountain which dates from the 17th Century. Rouen, the capital of Normandy, hosts one of the most important harbours in France. Both Joan of Arc and William the Conqueror died in Rouen. Joan of Arc was burned here in 1431. The spectacular Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral in Rouen was famously painted by Monet.
